Building a Training Plan

Needs and Skills Analysis

Our learning approach begins with a Needs and Skills Analysis. The target audience is identified by role (Project Managers, Portfolio Managers, Functional Managers, etc.) and the tasks for each role are then outlined with learning outcomes to determine the topics that must be taught. Any role that is impacted by the implementation of a new EPPM system will be identified and mapped to the specific job skills needed. Upon completion of this analysis, the mapping of the requirements to our existing library of courses is performed. In addition, our competency list provides details on the abilities needed to carry out a certain role and enables the identification of the specific learning objectives required by role. This facilitates the customization of the existing training content by role. 

Build Training Content

The development approach to customize the training content involves adapting our standard content to the specific EPPM configuration and functionality required for each role. We also embed any processes and methodologies unique to the client organization. Our instructional designer will evaluate the learning outcomes for each role and cluster these outcomes into like topics to create a manageable amount of information that can be digested by the learner and this becomes the basis for a course module or chapter.

Staff Training by Role

A Certified Microsoft Trainer will delivery customized training in alignment with the configuration of the environment so that only key features are being addressed during the training. When timelines for the phased EPPM roll-out are established, a training schedule is defined to ensure users are trained in a timely manner and in accordance with their ‘go-live’ date or expected date that the system is available for their use (pilot or production).  Just in time training is of utmost importance for effective retention of topics.

Evaluation & Continuous Improvement

Training modifications and improvements should always be considered based on regular student feedback. This can include periodic updating of course contents, planned modifications to training environments, retraining of employees with refresher courses or ‘lunch and learns’ to address frequently asked questions and changes to the system. Help desk questions and audit reports on system usage can be used to determining the need for developing additional training.
